DC with Kurt and Julie

So, last weekend - since it was 109 degrees in NJ (with humidity = so much hotter), we decided to go to Washington DC, where the heat index was 120 degrees. (ha!)

Mostly, we went to see Kurt and Julie, who are there for an accounting internship this summer.
We had lots of great fun trying to beat the heat.

And lucky enough for us, the Utah State Society was kind enough to throw a picnic in the park for
Pioneer Day!

It was weird to be so suddenly immersed in Mormon culture again. Mormons everywhere I looked! But while I heard many "epics" and "ah-MAZ-ings", and saw too many Aggie tee-shirts and pregnant women with lots of accessories, I was very grateful for this Utahism:

Cafe Rio just opened a few stores in Maryland, and they catered the picnic. Totally worth sweating to death outside when its 110 degrees.

Before we ate, Julie and I chatted while

  the boys played some catch.

And they made us laugh

at their cousinly love.

After the Pioneer fun we went to Georgetown and went shopping.

And we stopped by Sprinkles and got some cupcakes...

And we went to a park with water features. To eat the goodness of those cupcakes. (They melted in the heat of course).

HOT

(oh yeah! and CHINA TOWN)

Fun times with the (other) Frandsens. They will be visiting us next weekend for a little Jersey fun. Hooray for family in the East!

Remember How I Applied For Survivor?

Just a few weeks late on this post, but I wanted to make sure you all knew I went through on my strange ambitions and went to the open casting calls for Survivor.

Will anything come of it? Probably not, but I sure had a good time, and at least I can say that I did it!

Unfortunately I forgot to bring a Survival weapon,  but luckily this guy remembered his spear (and razor back tank)...

I wish I'd been with the camera with the dreamy Star Trek background, but mine was a little more boring. Unfortunately, I don't have a shot of me in front of the camera, because the lady behind me in line apparently doesn't know how to take a pic with an iPhone like I so kindly begged her to do.

After the auditions, my travel buddy Kayla told me about some great sites near by. So we went and saw Boulder Lake. So weird/cool! It was created by glaciers and lots of freezing, thawing, etc.

Basically it's a pile of millions of rocks.

And look, I even had my real camera, so enjoy some hi-res images for once:

The rhododendron were in full bloom and really nice.

Kayla brought along her Vivtar SLR, (FILM) camera. How cool is she?

That's a lot of rocks...

In the same state park was this pretty waterfall, so we ventured there as well.

And now, that Kayla moved all the way to California. Bummer!
But, isn't she so nice to come with me to Survivor auditions, help me with the audition videos, let me steal her computer to put edit the videos, and then take me to some of the finest spots in the Poconos? What a gem!

Sugar mongering

Thumbs down to working so late that the lights are off. Boo...

Starving after said long and late shift, I headed next door to Waldemort to get substance of any sort.

Gushers, Cinnabon cereal (who knew!?), Stouffer's lasagna (dinner today), two packs of pretzel m&m's (addicted), fruit mentos, Reese's PB cups, and Gobstoppers (dollar bin temptation).

Sweet tooth anyone?

So embarrassing how my health consciousness is pretty much obsolete after working (on my feet) for about 32 hours in 3 days (welcome back from vacation Christine!). Must have candyyyyyy!

(Are there enough parenthesis going on around here?)

PS... Guess who joined me for dinner tonight? After 4.5 weeks the biologist is back! Hooray! Sunday night bike ride, here we come. Bye.

1,000 iPhone photos

Holy moly. I have taken over 1,000 pics on the ole' iPhone.
Thought it was time for a bit of an iPhone dump/blog catch up/fill-in type thing.
Ready go!

Semi-successful crown braid, then a little lacrosse against the backboard while PB read a book.

Liquid nitrogen ice cream making with the Goates

Marian's "horse show", and subsequent blue ribbon - so proud!

Audrey's perfect hair, which I begged her to let me braid, fishtail style.

Stalker pic of the red hat ladies at the OG

Lots of self-taken pictures to send to my husband while he's on a trip so he remembers to come home :)

A delicious date I had with myself to a cupcake shop. That thing even had frosting in the middle, yuuuuum.

Bike rides and runs through Johnson Park and the towpath.

More pics for the Paul
(bonus! my former bald spot now has semi long hairs, which you can see sticking out on the right side there - which they have a tendency to do lately, only slightly annoying.)

Val + kids came to visit me. Beach time!

Then fun times with the girls at the Please Touch Museum in Philly.

Well, wasn't that fun? :)
