So, last weekend - since it was 109 degrees in NJ (with humidity = so much hotter), we decided to go to Washington DC, where the heat index was 120 degrees. (ha!)
Mostly, we went to see Kurt and Julie, who are there for an accounting internship this summer.
We had lots of great fun trying to beat the heat.
And lucky enough for us, the Utah State Society was kind enough to throw a picnic in the park for
Pioneer Day!
It was weird to be so suddenly immersed in Mormon culture again. Mormons everywhere I looked! But while I heard many "epics" and "ah-MAZ-ings", and saw too many Aggie tee-shirts and pregnant women with lots of accessories, I was very grateful for this Utahism:
Cafe Rio just opened a few stores in Maryland, and they catered the picnic. Totally worth sweating to death outside when its 110 degrees.
Before we ate, Julie and I chatted while
the boys played some catch.
And they made us laugh
at their cousinly love.
After the Pioneer fun we went to Georgetown and went shopping.
And we stopped by Sprinkles and got some cupcakes...
And we went to a park with water features. To eat the goodness of those cupcakes. (They melted in the heat of course).
HOT
(oh yeah! and CHINA TOWN)
Fun times with the (other) Frandsens. They will be visiting us next weekend for a little Jersey fun. Hooray for family in the East!
