Last time I posted about my migraines, my comments were mysteriously turned off- and a lot of people emailed me some great advice. But still, I can't figure out what is causing these darn things.

This calendar shows the dates that I have had migraines. Two in January, three in February, four in March, five in April, and I'm hoping for a decline for May. It should be noted that before January 2010, I'd had about 3 migraines my entire adult life.
I just can't get them figured out. Here are the facts:
I just can't get them figured out. Here are the facts:
They start with a visual scotoma, I see a blurry/flashy kind of shape, that gets bigger over time. The headache starts about a half hour later. Yesterday's was real intersting. I felt it in my ears, my sinuses, the back of my head, the front of my head, my temples. Every five minutes it found a new spot to torture. I also have numbness in my hands sometimes, and once in a while I have trouble speaking.
I see no consistancies with the food I eat, or the things I do. Sometimes I get them when I'm excited or looking forward to something, sometimes I get them when I am stressed, but sometimes they are just out of the blue.
I've been to a Doctor about it (twice), even had a CT scan, which came back normal. He prescribed Imitrex, which hasn't been too helpful, even when combined with four IB profuen. I also had my eyes checked (for the first time in my life), and I have perfect vision.
If you find a pattern with when I get the migraines, I'll give you a prize.
Plus, any advice is more than welcome!

Oh Christine, I am so sorry!! I feel your pain! People don't understand what a migraine really is until they've had one...I understand all of your symptoms because that is what I experience every-time I have a migraine! My father in law also suffers from migraines and he has been seeing a doctor and receiving some sort of therapy that has greatly reduced them!! I will talk to him more about it and let you know what he says....it's a terrible way to live!!
THe only pattern I have ever found with my migraines is during my period and perhaps ovulation. Also, if a storm is coming the drop in barametric pressure seems to affect them, i however have only had the visual problems once and none of your other symptons. Billy started getting them in his twenties as did Melissa, it could just be an age thing.
Mine were all birth control related. So, if you're not on birth control then what I say doesn't matter. But I was on three different BCs in 10-11 months and I was on YAZ when I started getting them. I went to the doctor and she said that if I stayed on BC and still had migraines I had an increased risk of stroke or worse. So, I went off and since then I haven't had one migraine. It took a while for my body to get back to normal... I had the occasional headache, but I haven't had a migraine since.
So, I think it might be a period/BC thing. Also, chocolate only made it worse and that's what they doctor said as well. If you have a large amount of chocolate at one time, you'll more than likely get a migraine. :)
Hope that helps. Good luck!
Hey christine I just saw your post and I had the same problems and like the last post mine were also because of birth control. I had a migraine pretty much every single day and doctors could not figure it out and I started reading about birth control symptoms and stuff, so I got off of Birth control and I have not had a migraine since.
So my mom was telling me about her neurologist. He's opened a clinic and gives his migraine patients botox (just once) between the eyebrows and above the temples. If the botox works to get rid of the migraine, he knows that it is those nerves right there that are causing the migraines. He goes in and clips those specific nerves and poof! no more migraines!
I know its random, but hey, if it works...
