Stuck in Utah (thanks a lot IRENE!)

Well today has been an interesting one. I was supposed to fly out of Salt Lake this afternoon. A few hours before my flight was supposed to leave, I got a text message saying my flight had been canceled. I called Southwest and got it rescheduled for tomorrow. It didn't make a lot of sense to me to cancel my flight on a day with clear weather and reschedule it for a day that a Hurricane was supposed to hit New Jersey, but that's just what Southwest decided was best apparently.

A few hours later, I get another text that my Saturday flight is canceled (of course! a Hurricane is coming folks!). I called immediately and was soon reassigned to a flight arriving in New Jersey Sunday night. Looking at the Hurricane's potential path/timeline I thought this one was going to work, hopefully arriving after the storm had settled.

Of course, it didn't.

Tonight I got another text saying my Sunday flight is cancelled. I called right away, was on hold for 25 minutes, and finally talked to a representive who then informed me that the next available flight is on September 1. A week from today. She tells me this at 9:30 pm Utah time, which of course is 11:30 pm NJ time - the exact time that my original plane should have touched down.

So, apparently I'm stuck in Utah for a week. Not a horrible place to be stuck, I suppose. In fact, I'm very glad that all this happened before I made my first connecting flight to Denver - because I sure wouldn't want to be stuck there for a week. I get another whole week with my family! A blessing indeed.

The kicker is that Paul drove back home as a companion to his road-tripping brother-in-law. It would be much easier to deal with this dilemma together - but I suppose it's a blessing since he starts school this week.

Oh yeah, and we are flying back to Utah on Sep 15 for my sister's wedding :) It's going to be a busy few weeks. Because, heck, I may have to find a new job now that I'm missing 7 scheduled shifts this week. (yikes!).

Blah blah blah blah stress, complain, stress, complain is about the summary of this little blog post. So let's end on a happy note, eh?

At least I get to spend some more time in this comfy hammock in my parents' backyard and stare at those beautiful green leaves. Hooray for that!

Yay for more family time!! Wes and I debated flying home for the hurricane, but we aren't in a flood zone and don't really have the money so we are sticking it out here in NY. Have fun in Utah!

Oh man, SUPER sucky! But working for jetBlue, I can tell you that we hate telling people there aren't any flights available for a week almost as much as everyone hates hearing it. Haha! Hurricanes. Good times.
